I'm using my own domain with a shared web hosting plan. I usually use Apple Mail as my mail client and have chosen to delete my mail from server after downloading. However, when I log in though web mail occasionally, I always find a few old messages still in my inbox. What's going on? Should I be using IMAP instead of Pop? what's the difference?

Quick remote desktop connection question?
So I know how everything will work with this and all, but instead of typing in my ip address I want to type in blabla.org. I will be going through http://www.namecheap.com . I seem to be confused. Which service is it? When I get to name cheap I get confused. All I need is something that when I type blabla.org it will go to my ip address, I can go through other web sites as well. I want it to look like so and so.org:port number. I don't need any web hosting or e mail. Thanks for the help.

sign up for an account, add your domain then back to your domain provider (where you signed for your domain), update the DNS servers and then download the client to your computer. there are few instuctions on how to make the client run as a service on your computer. running as a service means that the client will start when the computer starts even if you did not login.
The client monitors your IP and reports it to zoneedit.com when it changes.
i have been using it for a while and had no issues. the client takes about 5 minutes to update the ip address once a change is reported.

Note: once you sign up for a domain name it wil take 72 hours to get it working.

Errors Installing WordPress On My Website?
I have web-hosting at Startlogic.com. I download the wordpress zip and extracted the contents. then i created a mysql database in the startlogic "vdeck" i called it wordpress321 and i made a username and password. then i change wp-config-sample to wpconfig and filled in the changes. then i uploaded all the files (2.9 mb) to public_html on my web-server.
And i get an error message saying something about how the script could not fulfill its request. ive tried this sooooo many times, please help!!!!!

What is your domain name? Go to fttp://yourdomainname.com
the "fttp://" extension will take you to the root files. You'll have to log in, so check the confirmation email they sent you for your username and password. Hit "Save password" so you don't have to log in every time. Drag a shortcut to your desktop, too.
Make your website with some tool, be it HTML, Microsoft Frontpage (wich is EASY, and most computers have it. You might have to enable FrontPage extensions in your Hosting package, look into it), Dreamweaver, Flash, whatever. When you're done, copy/paste the files into your fttp:// folder and wait for them to upload.
I'm not sure how much you know about webdesign, but you'll have to have ALL files associated with your website IN the fttp:// folder, or else they won't show up
Reply:What I do is create my layout in photoshop then use the slice tool to cut tables and then save it for web. Then I open up dreamweaver and edit the tables accordingly to allow for text and to make the page stretch vertically and/or horizontally. Just keep all the files your edit in one root folder then once it all looks good all you have to do it upload all the contents of the root folder to your website's root folder in ftp and you're good to go ;)

I'm trying (for the first time!) to build a database-driven dynamic website and am lost in the terminology.
Could someone explain the following:
The difference between Coldfusion and .NET? Are they roughly equivilant programs from different vendors?
How does ASP relate to ColdFusion? Is ColdFusion a way of implementing ASP, or something else entirely?
What, exactly, is ColdFusion is used for? I've read that it "gives database backend to web-based front end connectivity", but that's all greek to me. I'd really like specific, real world examples of what ColdFusion can (and is) used for.
Plain english definitions of some of the terms that typically are often used with CF (such as ASP, PHP, Access-- how does it all connect)?
Does it matter what database I use (e.g. is Access 2003 okay for a relatively simple database that will be used by ColdFusion and Dreamweaver?
Are there any special considerations in web hosting that I will have to allow for because I'm using CF?

ASP (specificall ASP.NET) can be implemented via Coldfusion's GUI. If you've got .aspx server controls on your server, Coldfusion can do its thing on those for DB reports.
ColdFusion in the capacticy I've used it for, is a reporting mechanism; like a inhouse dataminer on Steriods. If you've got it running agains a ASP database, then now you can run custom-written reports against this database and gather information (simlar to CrystalReports).

I am new to web-hosting and have a neat web analyzer tool. However, I am confused as to why there are multiple "visitors" listed from the same IP address. I thought that was a unique indentifier. Are they the same visitors looking at the site more than once?
