Does a web domain have to be hosted in order to use it to redirect to a site that IS hosted?

In other words, if I register a new domain that I want to use in advertising, but I want people who type it in their browser to be REDIRECTED to another site that's already online, does the new domain need to be hosted, or is it enough that I have registered the domain? Sorry... dumb question. Thanks...

You don't need to host it since your are doing domain redirect.

Let say a.com is your new domain; b.com is the domain you already have.

Here are two method you can do now.

1. Domain Forwarding

e.g. Vistor type a.com, it forward them to b.com with url: b.com shows on the URL address.

2. Domain Masking

This one I will suggest more.

e..g. Vistor type a.com, it will user a.com to shows all b.com links. The URL address will still use a.com although all the stuff are from the b.com

Almost all Doamin registration company has that feature on their control panel, check that out.

This link has a tutorial about that:

Hope it can help you!

You only need to register the domain name.

Most registrars, like GoDaddy, will redirect your domain name to any URL for free.

Help with Web Design Assignment!!!!!?

The assignment is to search the internet, newspapers, and local contacts and businesses to reasearch the costs involved and the steps required to publish a web site to a virtual host.

Any links or names of newspapers in Georgia that would help are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Help with Web Design Assignment!!!!!?
steps required

1) Get a domain name provider - to book your internet name

here netsol (www.networksolutions.com) is one such provider.

2) Then develop your website.

3) search for a web hosting provider. You require a professional hosting to be on fat pipes. Technically you can host your site on your own computer also but you will need

A) an static IP

B) lot of bandwidth

so you are better off with a provider only

4) The kind of service/provider you need is driven by your requirements plus technologies you use. From gate.com you can get Virtual hosting for as low as 30$ / month. There is rimuhosting, verio.com , yahoo.com also provides hosting.

5) upload your website folders/files to your provider. The provider will supply details on how to do it.

6) point your domain name to your hosting provider IP. This you have to do with your domain name provider.

viola! you are up and running a web site ..............

What's a good host for a new web 2.0 application?

Something fast and reliable that would allow me to play with a wide variety of technologies?

I would assume Yahoo Web hosting is compatible with Web 2.0

What's the best host for a free web site?

Reliable, spacious, and allows html.

I like google pages. It gives you a ton of space for free, but it doesn't incorperate html very well. It's ad free though. My second pick would be geocities. It only has some minor ads. (although annoying) It has a basic html editor and you can upload your already existing html pages easily. I would also advise you to go to www.dot.tk (if its still running) to get a free domain name (.tk) It might have one irritating add before you can enter your website, but i think it's worth it.

EDIT: other than my two choices? Well freewebs is ok, but it really sucks. I have never found anything reliable thats good out there. Maybe try dotster.com?

Reply:If you are currently a paid Internet subscriber, you are entitled to a "homepage" which often contains simple navigation and editing tools. And if you use the Netscape browser, the built-in Composer feature is a superior HTML authoring tool. You can easily generate a full-blown website as a Homepage. Nevertheless, the "homepage" URL is likely to be "http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscribe... name" and that URL can easily be overwritten via a redirection service, i.e., "mydomain.com" which allows you to link any registered domain name to "mask" another website. For example, should you type in "domainname.com", you will be immediately transported to the homepage and the hompage URL of http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber... name will be masked by the domainname.com. And the charge for the redirection service [even at godaddy.com] is normally FREE. Here's a demonstration: Type in the URL window: "www.pizzanextdoor.com" which will bring up their pizza website. Take note of the domain name. Then type in the URL window: "http://home.pacbell.net/vten/1a/pizzame... and you will see that this is the original homepage which is unmasked without the domain name!

Good luck!
Reply:If you are serious about websites either for personal or your business, don't go to free web hosting as they are usually not reliable and you may end up losing all your hard work. Free web hosts usually put advertisements on your websites and it could be annoying.

If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months' time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.

I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.

Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukend...

They offer hosting of "unlimited domains" and you will get massive webspace of 300000 MB (300 GB ). They only charge $5.95/month and they offer "a free Domain Name" and installing service called "Fantastico". By using Fantastico, you could create own forum, photo gallery, shopping cart (e-commerce),your own auction site and your own blogs within few seconds. They also offer "Free Website Builder" as well.

Visit the site to check details.

Following site is quite good to register domains as price is reasonable with free privacy. Some charge about $5/ year just for free privacy.

Reply:You must know HTML; it is a web scripting language. If you want to learn HTML visit www.w3schools.com Then you write your code and save them in your computer and then you have to buy a domain like www.yourname.com and also a server space to upload and save your file(s) in there internet.

You need HTML coding knowledge about how to handle flash objects, java applets.

There are many free hosting services available on internet. But no free domain name registrars. (visit www.blazonhosting.com and check the prices. It is about US$9 -10)

If you do not know HTML , there are many programs with graphical user interface.(Dreamwever, Frontpage) They let you to drag and drop your items within the page and it will automatically generate the HTML code for you.

If you want more details contact. I m a webmaster too...

What is the best host for a free web site?

If you are willing to learn HTML I would suggest ATSPACE.COM. You can create a website for FREE up to 50MBs in size. I have two websites through them and the uptime is great. NO ADS, NO BANNERS. You'll need an ftp program to upload your stuff. There's a good free one for personal use called "FTP Explorer". Of course you'll either need to learn HTML or use one of the WYSIWYG programs like FrontPage or DreamWeaver to actually design your site. e-mail me if you need some help...

If you want your own domain and have it hosted, I suggest ReadyHosting. You get 1GB of space unlimted e-mail accounts, FTP access and domain name registration all for $99 a year.

Web Site Help?

I had a web site designed a year age it looks great but is all my own art and designs and cost so much money it's scary. Problem is no one can find it and the e-mail never works. I've run out of money and now my web designers want 拢200 to keep on hosting it and have now taken it of the web Help. I don't know what I have to do Thanks to every one who answered my last web question

Have you got the site backed up if so you could get it hosted anywhere where it is cheaper and tech support is free!

If not try freewebs.com its all free no html needed and they have links for google submission so you show up on google searches.
Reply:i suggest you try freewebs
Reply:Hopefully you have a backup of your site. If so, go here: http://www.drak.net/freeaccount.html

You'll have to do your own web editing, but it doesn't have all the ads like most free hosts force you to have. There is a $25 setup fee, and I'm not sure if they take international accounts, but it's worth asking.
Reply:information given seems unclear, the cost may seem high, but for what time frame, month or year, 200拢 ~ 400$ may be ok if for a year and other related requirements as for use of size, business, and uploading unknown,

web designer vs service provider, may want to determine what your web is used for and if in the UK, what usage is allowed versus other countries,

yahoo has free site if not for business, but if only for local needs, may check with service provider for personal deals,
