you can host a server that SUPPORTS frontpage ... NEVER use a webhost that runs windows servers ... your just asking to get owned. 99% of vertiual hosting providers have 10% owned boxes.
Reply:You don't need a Windows server. UNIX is fine.
You might need a host that supports Frontpage Extensions if you plan to use some features of Frontpage, but most people can get by without those features, and last time I checked they were available for UNIX and Windows systems.
Personally I would avoid Frontpage though. The quality of its output is generally rather low. Dreamweaver is better, but nothing is a good substitute for learning HTML and CSS.
Reply:Stick with making a webpage on Google's server which is often given preferential PageRank perts [i.e., a higher ranking] for its resident websites. Or, if you are already an AOL.com subscriber, host your website on their homepage option or on their Business server. Again, this strategy of selective hosting, is to avail yourself of "preferential" treatment between contracting Internet providers and major search engines/directories.

How do I set up a folder?
I signed up for Yahoo's web hosting starter plan today and called tech support to find out how I can have my web site that is under development viewed by a couple of people before publishing it to the actual domain name (which is registered with Network Solutions). The tech told me to "set up a folder" under my account and publish the pages (out of SiteBuilder) to that folder. Can you tell me how to do this? Thank you.

For free webhosting with EZHostLive, I need to set my "nameservers" to two of their addresses. First of all, what are nameservers? And how do I change them with dl.am subdomains?

If you are offering a special service for weddings you have to make sure it is perfect - this is a special day for people and if you mess it up you will not get much business. Get it right and you will get lots. Price in itself isn't normally an issue, it's value for money. If you provide excellent quality and services, you can charge more.

i use a web hosting company so the server is remote. when i upload files to the server and go to them on the web (ie. http://www.mywebsite.com/myfilename.aspx... all that happens is the source code for the asp.net file shows up. how do i get the actual page to show. i have tested the page using localhost and it worked fine.

Avg anti virus
All are free programs
After you have down loaded them re start in safe mode
Press F8 on start up
Turn of System restore
Start,all programs accessories ,system tools,system restore.
Run all the above programs , and once you have removed all the rubbish Turn on system restore and re start your computer as normal

How to listen to my MP3 collection from another computer?
I have a small (very legal) MP3 collection that I would like to listen to from different computers, across the internet. My MP3s live on a Windows file server which also has web hosting turned on. Ideally, I would either be able to load winamp, point it at my home IP address (the server) and access, control and listen to them remotely OR I would be able to view a web based MP3 player that would run from the server, playing the songs locally through my browser. The key to both is that it needs to be easy to implement, easy to use and free!

Hi I've been trying to make my own website which I was successful but dang it doesn't look very pretty or eye catching. One problem that I've come across is SEO and I've heard that Google does not recognize my website because of the amount of “%20” in the URL address for my pages. For example:

I don’t know how or why but how do I get rid of %20 out of my URL? I used MS FrontPage 2000 to make my website if that makes a difference.
Also my web hosting server is coming up for renewal and I want to change hosting servers. What are some good criteria to use to choose a good provider for the dollar?

They are much prettier in an URL and I'm pretty sure they are OK with SEO. So rename your file to "CAD_Drafting_FAQS.htm" and the URL will become "example.com/CAD_Drafting_FAQS.htm"

I'm a pretty technical guy. I know everything about front end development but I can't seem to grasp backend dev. I'm going to be using Cold Fusion with MySQL. I have paid for a web hosting account with a MySQL database and all I need to do is get the server environment on my local machine. I've gotten ColdFusion working with a MS Access database-- that's easy-- I just can't seem to grasp MySQL. Is there a good tutorial you can recommend? Thanks! (P.S. I was inquiring with my web hosting company. The plan I signed up for says I can host unlimited domains with this one account. The rep said yes "it will be a resolvable domain.", when I asked about adding other sites.

So if say, you type in yahoo.com, your computer looks up yahoo.com's machine address (IP addess) on those DNS servers, and knows where the content - webpages/pictures etc. are stored. Sometimes a domain name is not configured correctly and is not set to point to any particular IP. That's an unresolvable domain. In contrast, any domain going to an IP is resolvable.
p.s. It's a lot more complicated than that, but I don't think one needs to go into such detail :)
p.s.2. In your particular case, I would guess you can point an unlimited number of domains to your hosting space / to your server's IP address. Each domain would go into a separate directory. Basically you would have a number of websites on the same hosting 'puter / at the same price.

I exchanged a number of emails with their customer service department because I felt weary of the payment methods. However, all of the responses seemed very profession. I then went ahead with the order, receieved payment instructions and once transfer was completed even received a payment received invoice and order update... BUT THAT WAS IT.... Nothing else and now no goods, no response to emails, impossible to leave testimonial feedback, the phone number doesnt work. Also, you will probably have to replace the index.html or index.htm page the free web host might have provided already for you. The main page that users will go to will be your index page.

I need the pc to be able to run 24/7 with little or no noise. I need it to be small, preferably as small as possible (without compromising on heat dissipation though). The pc does not need to be powerful, entry level of slightly higher would do. A generous harddisk would be a bonus.

My website disappeared?
I am using a free web hosting service, and my website doesn't appear at all. I have never had any problems with them before, but now it is not there. When I log into my FTP ( I use Microsoft Expression ) it shows that both the online files and my files were unchanged. This is wierd.

I am looking to make some profit too. Something like web hosting, ftp hosting, uploading stuff. Whatever. I have one P4 which is good, going to run windows xp or server not sure yet. The other one is a real bad one, so I will put linux on it.

This was one option to confirm my identity before opening a web hosting account. The host claims that this confirmation helps eliminate fraud. It seems like I'd be opening myself up to fraud if I did it this way. Their email asking me to fax or scan my license (or passport or green card) also asks for feedback on their confirmation process. I'd love to complain, but I can't find anything specific to support my feeling that this is a bad idea. Can someone tell me the specific risks and provide real-life examples? Note that I played it safe(r) and confirmed by phone instead. Thanks! nR.

Maybe your servers hosts have gone down?
If not, clear your cache, cookies, temporary files, run a full system virus scan and reset your Hosts file. By the time that's all done your host should be fixed.

If not, clear your cache, cookies, temporary files, run a full system virus scan and reset your Hosts file. By the time that's all done your host should be fixed.

Does a web domain have to be hosted in order to use it to redirect to a site that IS hosted?
In other words, if I register a new domain that I want to use in advertising, but I want people who type it in their browser to be REDIRECTED to another site that's already online, does the new domain need to be hosted, or is it enough that I have registered the domain? Sorry... dumb question. Thanks...

You don't need to host it since your are doing domain redirect.
Let say a.com is your new domain; b.com is the domain you already have.
Here are two method you can do now.
1. Domain Forwarding
e.g. Vistor type a.com, it forward them to b.com with url: b.com shows on the URL address.
2. Domain Masking
This one I will suggest more.
e..g. Vistor type a.com, it will user a.com to shows all b.com links. The URL address will still use a.com although all the stuff are from the b.com
Almost all Doamin registration company has that feature on their control panel, check that out.

I like google pages. It gives you a ton of space for free, but it doesn't incorperate html very well. It's ad free though. My second pick would be geocities. It only has some minor ads. (although annoying) It has a basic html editor and you can upload your already existing html pages easily. I would also advise you to go to www.dot.tk (if its still running) to get a free domain name (.tk) It might have one irritating add before you can enter your website, but i think it's worth it.
EDIT: other than my two choices? Well freewebs is ok, but it really sucks. I have never found anything reliable thats good out there. Maybe try dotster.com?

If you are willing to learn HTML I would suggest ATSPACE.COM. You can create a website for FREE up to 50MBs in size. I have two websites through them and the uptime is great. NO ADS, NO BANNERS. You'll need an ftp program to upload your stuff. There's a good free one for personal use called "FTP Explorer". I have registered a domain name and the site is under construction. have a hosting place now. i want to upload 3-4 test pages now untill i complete the correct site web pages. the actual site will be hosted in a different place in different IP address after about 1 months time. I want find out whether i will loose the traffic history, hit count and the ranking when i switch my hosting place to adifferent IP address after my site is completed.
