Hey Everyone,
I am interested in creating a website, and hosting users videos that they upload. In essence, almost exactly like youtube. What programs will I need to accomplish this? I know I need a domain, web host, (and will require a lot of space since people will be uploading media), and I know I'll need dreamweaver or similar to create the html.... what other programs go into effect? THANK YOU!

You need a server-side scripting language such as PHP and a database such as MySQL. Then you will need to learn a bit of Flash to create your video player. And about 2 years of learning how to code.

I use visual caster - dirt cheap and very similar in looks %26amp; operation to youtube.
Reply:This isn't really as easy as it sounds... Having a user base and not the requisite know-how to program in ASP/PHP/some other server-side solution is a total deathtrap! Design-wise, all you really need is a text editor or Dreamweaver if you prefer. Flash would be preferable, but you can use someone else's pre-package FLV player to display your vids. Additionally, you'll need to either convert the vids to FLV yourself and upload, or find a server-side solution that will do it for you. If you don't own your own server, this will piss of your host. Video conversion is extremely taxing on a processor, and they really aren't going to want to handle your server loads. Trust me, this isn't an easy project to do without experience, so either hand it off to someone or to TONS of research about it!
