Website Creation!?

Hey! I have a few questions, I'm not sure what to do. I want to create a website for moms! I want alot of information as well as feedback from my visitors. I know I need to purchase a domain name and find a web hosting company or whatever to create my site with. The only thing is, I have no clue to what to buy! NO CLUE! I checked out www.godaddy.com and I just got lost because I know what I want but don't know the terminology of what I need. Any help would be great! I need a company that has a site builder program for free and is great quality. This is my 1st website but of course, like the rest of 'em, I want it to be great! Any help would be appreciated. TY!

Building a web site takes a lot of time, and work.


Save yourself the money and skip the dotcom nonsense until you have something to put up, by using a free server such as Yahoo's Geocities to get started, you'll save yourself at the very least several hundred dollars.
Reply:godaddy.com also offer with any hosting plan you buy some free cms easy to install (like joomla, mambo, and so on). Using these cms you can easily create a website with dynamic content based on databases (MySQL). It might sound difficult but it's really easy.





Just go to www.opensourcecms.com and test a version of free cms that would suit you best.


The advantages of cms would be that you don't need to be a web developer in order to have a good website able to allow people to register, to post comment or reviews on you site. Everything is very easy.


However I wouldn't recommend goddady hosting for any of the cms as their server run quite slow these websites (I know as I have a website on their server, and just wait to go to another provider as soon as my account expires).





You should look for MySQL, PHP support, Apache for your hosting, I would recommend a Linux hosting.

Reply:What you need is a "content management system" such as Drupal or Joomla. There are many others as well.They come with pre-made templates and are easy to use.





You may want to install Apache,MySql and php on your computer so you can try out different "Content Management Systems" and develop your website off-line first but this is not necessary.
