How is the disk space made in the first place (for web sites) ?

if we wanna make a web site, we need to have the web space from yahoo or other hosting (like 1GB, 5GB, etc). every site uses them for uploads and data transfers.

but then how are these spaces created in the first place? where do they come from and where are they? who makes them? how do they look?

can they keep making this "space" forever, with no limit (which people try to buy)?
How is the disk space made in the first place (for web sites) ?
Every web space provider has in their posession (or somewhere nearby) masses and masses of computers. These are not set up like yours and mine for surfing and gaming, but are simply there to hold peoples websites. When someone wants a website they pay the provider either for a domain name (the www.mysite.co.uk) part and some file hosting space (250MB, 1GB etc).

All of the files for your website are on these servers, alongside other peoples sites. Don't worry though, only you can access it (via your special login details when you buy the webspace).

Hope this helps a little.
How is the disk space made in the first place (for web sites) ?
They are hard disks on servers. Servers are fast computers that can be easily chained together.

Storage is large arrays of hard disks, plates with fine magnetic material on both sides. These can hold ones and zeros in the forms of a tiny spot being magnetic or not, or being magnetized in different directions.

The finer the mag. material and the smoother the disk surface, the more storage per sq.in is possible.

The disk is formatted into sectors, like pizza slices, and bands like an old record. These make areas for data storage (files) which are kept track of in a special area called a FAT (file allocation table.)

This tells the computer where to look. A "seek arm"

reads and writes data, and is that buzzing noise you hear. Most disks spin at 7200 rpm. By timing the read or write action precisely, and having the arm at the right distance from center, the proper data is read.

The data gets denser every year (more can be stored in same area on disk.) Thank an instructor I had named Lamoreaux for that explanation, true in 1970, and true now.
Reply:the space is partitioned on servers, as long as they have enough servers, they can host as much stuff / sites/ content as they want. if you notice, space is becoming cheaper and cheaper, which makes it possible for billions of pages to be hosted on a few servers.
