One page on the Web (including images) should not be bigger than 500KB (that's half a MB), in general; after that, it starts to take a long time to load. Try to access your website from a computer like your users will have. Does it take more than 3-5 seconds to get the page? If so, it's too big. The 5 seconds rule is actually the benchmark for size; after that time, many people will click 'Back' and look elsewhere.

How long is a rope? web pages can be anywhere from 1k to Gigabytes. You could easy have a 1GB page if you had a lot of high-quality photos, sounds, and especially video. You need to find a book called "Teach Yourself HTML and XHTML in 24 hrs" from SAMS Publishing. It should get you going good. Don't use Print Shop Pro. Thats not whats up.
