Is it possible to host your own web space off your own machine?
Try Apache server and you could host website on your computer.

But if you create website and if you like to run your website 24/7 from your computer, you will have to switch on your computer all the time and it may damage your computer in the long run.

If you intend to create a few websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website), go for multiple web hosting where you could handle your websites in one account.

Visit Following webhosting , they are quite good.

They offer hosting of "unlimited domains" and you will get massive webspace of 300000 MB (300 GB ). They only charge $5.95/month and they offer "a free Domain Name" and installing service called "Fantastico". By using Fantastico, you could create own forum, photo gallery, shopping cart (e-commerce),your own auction site and your own blogs within few seconds. They also offer "Free Website Builder" as well.

Visit the site to check details.

The main ones to get will be the Apache2 setup and the PHP5 if you need to use php.
Reply:Yes,it definitely possible, however not recommended unless you don't care about your website uptime.

Generally,a web server needs to be a dedicated PC with something like Windows Server 2003 Web Edition or similar Linux counterparts...

For a small website without too many fancy things, even an older PC is able to do just fine. Keep in mind to use it ONLY for web hosting. You also need (best case scenario) a public IP address from your ISP for the Web Server.
Reply:Yes you can with a DSL or cable connection. If you have a dynamic IP address you will need a Dynamic DNS service.
